In 1966, I bought an Appaloosa Gelding that I showed in barrels, poles and reining. We showed Quarter Horses too, as my neighbors and friends all raised Quarter Horses. The more and more we showed, the more we leaned towards the Appaloosa Breed. We liked their versatility, willingness, conformation and unmatched disposition. In 1975 we started a broodmare program to compliment our show string. Our first real investment was in a stallion named "Pok-A-Burt" who could do it all (from Halter to English to Western Pleasure and was even used for Lead-line and Walk & Trot) plus he sired color and foals that rode. Pok-A-Burt was later replaced with a young stallion name "Mighty Brite Sun" who we showed extensively finishing in the "Top 10" in the Nation in Halter one year. We had great success in halter, western pleasure & reining. Finishing in the "Top 10" in reining and halter a couple of times under the training of Joey Jorgenson. Althought we dont spend much time in the show circuit, we continue to breed our Appaloosa's for conformation and dispostion. We continue to promote the bloodlines of our foundation of Herndon's Pok-A-Son, Mighty Tim and the Executive, while adding An Awesome Secret, Mr. All Inclusive and most recently our new stallion in 2017 IMA Cool Kelo. IMA Cool Kelo is a son of HOF Imaginate, and a daughter of Awestruck. Our motto is "We raise halter horses that ride." We are very excited each year to see what our mares have in store for us! We feel we have an excellent foal crop coming again this year for you to select from.
In 1997, we entered in a new adventure, raising Elk. They are a very bold, proud, and inquisitive animal. Although they are extremely wild they are very enjoyable to raise. We raise them for breeding stock, hunting preserves, velvet and meat. Elk meat is one of the leanest meats available. We have been TB Accredited and CWD free since 1997; in 2016 we added Brucellosis Accreditation as well. I like to say we breed for conformation, but my sons remind me that they aren't halter horses and we raise them for beauty, disposition, and antlers. Our Bulls and Cows carry the bloodlines of some of the greatest "Elk Bulls" in the world with multiple International Champions in their pedigrees. We continue to improve our bloodlines through breeding and offer for sale Elk Bulls, Cows and calves.
